Virginia land papers, 1794-1853.

George Chambers and his brother Benjamin Joseph Chambers, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, contracted with William Chancellor, John Davis, and George and Edward Thomson, merchants of Philadelphia, to locate and patent 100,000-300,000 acres of Virginia lands for one-half interest in the enterprise. Most of the lands acquired (160,208.5 acres by 1811) were in Botetourt County. The bulk of these papers pertain to the management of the land by George Chambers' estate. Included are letters, patents, and receipts.
